DRAFT — PENDING LEGAL REVIEW. This Privacy Policy is a provisional draft and has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. It will be finalized before launch.
K9 is operated by K9 Ventures LLC (“K9,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the K9 app, website, and related services. By using K9, you agree to this Policy.
Account information: your email address and authentication credentials (managed by our authentication provider), and an optional first and last name (kept private unless you choose to share your first name on your dog’s profile).
Profile information: the dog details you provide (name, username, breed, gender, birthday, photos, bio) and, for businesses, business details; and your city and state and approximate location, used to show nearby content and distances.
Content you create: posts, photos, videos, stories, comments, reactions, messages, reviews, meetups, place listings, and group activity.
Care records and documents: dog care and health records and documents you choose to store, which may include vaccination and rabies certificates, insurance, microchip and adoption records, veterinary records, and service-animal or emotional-support-animal letters. These are private to your account — see Section 5.
Usage and device information: how you interact with the app, approximate device and log data, and push-notification tokens if you enable notifications.
We use information to create and operate your account; provide and personalize the Service (feed, discovery, distances, reminders); enable social and marketplace features; deliver notifications you opt into; maintain safety and moderate content; prevent fraud and abuse; comply with legal obligations; and improve K9.
We do not currently sell or share your identifiable personal information for money or other valuable consideration. If this ever changes, we will update this Policy with reasonable advance notice, and any sale or sharing of identifiable personal information — and any sharing of sensitive information such as health or disability documents or precise location — will occur only under the updated terms and with your affirmative opt-in consent, or subject to the opt-out rights applicable law provides (for example, under the CCPA/CPRA and the Florida Digital Bill of Rights).
Aggregated and de-identified information: we may create aggregated or de-identified information from activity on K9 — information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you or your dog, such as trends about how dog owners in a city use pet services — and may use and share it for any business purpose, including analytics, research, and insights offered to businesses and partners. We maintain such information in aggregated or de-identified form, maintain technical and business processes designed to prevent re-identification, do not attempt to re-identify it (except as reasonably necessary to test those de-identification safeguards), and contractually require recipients not to attempt to re-identify it. Your documents, care and health records, precise location, and the personal information of minors are never included in identifiable form.
To exercise these rights, email privacy@joink9.app. We will acknowledge and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally within 45 days, extendable where the law permits). To protect your privacy, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on a request, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If we decline a request, we will explain why, and you may appeal by replying to our response.
K9 is intended only for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use K9 (see our Terms of Service). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18; if you believe someone under 18 has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete content or your account, we remove it from the active Service, subject to reasonable backup and legal-retention periods.
We use technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls and restricted, private storage for documents. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
K9 is operated in the United States, and information is processed and stored in the United States.
Businesses listed on K9 and any third-party sites we link to are independent. Their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and may notify you of material changes in the app.
